I think I’m getting better at things.  This is probably the first time I’ve used such a wide color pallet. I like it.  There is a lot that could be changed about this but it’s a nice looking test piece. Among other techniques it uses the 3D tube drawing technique for which a tutorial is forthcoming.  Can’t wait to do that tutorial and see what others think.

The above image was created in part using a technique I haven’t seen anywhere else.  It’s the technique used in the above image to create those puffy billows that come out from behind the letters.  In essence it’s a technique to easily create the appearance of 3D in tubes, pipes, and billows like you see above.  Not to mention long 3D looking boxes, etc.  Below are a few more examples.  Expect a tutorial in the next couple days.

TOCA ME Opening Titles 2009 from Gregor Hofbauer on Vimeo.

So there is a lot to love about this sequence.  Not interplay between the music and the visual for sure, great and consistent color palette and great use of repeating/growing 2.5 D elements.  Pretty cool.

Alphones Mucha - Passing Wind, 1899

Now here is a set of fantastic turn of the century (the other turn of the century) designs and illustrations.  The one above is for a fan, but there are wine labels, flatware, posters, etc.  Alphones Mucha was a Czech Art Nouveau designer and painter.  His work is clearly distinctive and something that I am sure the great many of you out there have seen.  So ubiquitis in a sense that it is like part of our background.  Well I suppose that because it is!  Really worth a look.

Also it’s good to be back!  Haven’t posted in for ever!
